Andrew Fanara, Larry Vertal, and me at the Uptime Symposium yesterday

Andrew Fanara, Larry Vertal, and me at the Uptime Institute Symposium in Santa Clara, CA, May 11, 2011.  The three of us were at the center of efforts to improve energy efficiency in servers and data centers starting in early 2006.  Larry was at AMD when that company started to use efficiency as a selling point for their processors in servers (he also funded my papers on electricity used by servers that came out in 2007 and that grew into the analysis for the EPA Report to Congress and this 2008 peer reviewed journal article). Andrew was at EPA’s Energy Star Program (he initiated and sponsored the two meetings on data center efficiency I chaired in 2006—for more details go here).
