Wonderful EE Times cover story on computing efficiency trends and their implications

Cover of EE Times June 21, 2011

Bruce Rayner at Electrical Engineering Times did a great writeup on our work on trends in computing efficiency in their June 21, 2011 issue.  It’s a cover story.

Rayner uses our work as backdrop to tell the story of five key technologies that will have a huge impact on environmental issues in coming years.  Here’s his list:

1) The transistor: Going 3-D

2) Solid state lighting:  Dramatic energy savings from LEDs

3) Energy harvesting:  Catalyst for wireless sensor nets

4) Superconducting cable: Smart grid enabler

5) Silicon carbide: Boosting energy savings in thousands of apps

All of these are important and potentially game changing in various applications.  Can you think of some others?
